How long do dental implant last?
Many people usually think how long
dental implants last before the procedure.
Like the lifespan of human healthy
teeth is vary from person to person,
dental implants also depend on oral status,
health condition, dentist’s skill, patient’s
careful care, ectc… Therefore, dentists
will not be able to predict exactly
how long implants work.
However, the average lifespan for a
well-maintained dental crown is about
10 years and dental implants can
be used permanently with good care.
There are still many studies about the life
expectancy of dental implants but
no definite answers to this question.
Since there are various types of dental
prosthesis and treatment methods,
the released studies are just reference
resource and the lifespan for dental
prosthesis is unpredictable.
Dr. Jeong-Taek LEE of S-PLANT
Dental Hospital said “The lifespan of dental
implants should be considered but
the treatment for maintenance of natural
teeth is also important in the long run.
Although it is hard to predict
how long dental implants long,
assuming natural teeth are 100 points,
both patient and dentist should try to
maintain 100 points of dental implants
as long as possible”.
Plus, even if the lifespan of dental implant is
around 10 years, the placed implants
don’t need to be changed in 10 years.
Patients should not neglect the implant for
10 years since it looks and patient should
not neglect constant care of implant
although it looks well for 10 years.
If you get proper treatment and follow
doctor’s directions, you can keep your
implants healthy for a long time.
"Patient safety is always
a top priority"
