Many people consider dental implant
when teeth are damaged or lost.
And lately dental implants are more
common than they were in the past that
are not only for the elderly but also
for the young.
However in the dental procedure,
it is difficult procedures that make
it not easy to decide.
Therefore we will have a question and
answer session with Dr. Byungsup Sohn
from the Ministry of Health and Welfare
Certified S-PLANT Dental Hospital about
the way to do the implant surgery
without failure.
1. Who needs dental implant in general?
Dental Implant surgery is a necessary
treatment when loss of natural teeth or
removal of teeth due to cavities or
inflammation. Implants can be replaced by
natural teeth instead of dentures or bridges.
In the case of the elderly,
dental implant are needed usually for
those who has severe periodontal
disease and for younger patients
when they have smaller teeth in the first
place that the occlusion does not fit well,
teeth are insufficient, teeth are damaged
due to cavities or accidents
2. Is it possible to choose between general
anesthesia and conscious sedation?
What is the recommendation for
anesthesia in general?
There are various cases such as a simple
dental surgery with local anesthesia
which is in general or a surgery requiring
high skills with conscious sedation.
Basically, most people have a little fear
of dental treatment but
we do not recommend conscious
sedation to everybody. We recommend
it for those who need a lot of implants or
dental treatment is impossible with a
serious dental phobia
3. What is guided surgery?
Tell me what is it and
how it works for dental implant.
When place the fixture of dental implant,
if you put it in the wrong position,
you may not see the problem right now,
but there are many cases that troubles
will arise in the future.
In addition, when placing implant fixture,
there should not be in close to a nerve
and guided surgery is the primary defense
against this.
First, we need 3D CT scan to identify
all the important anatomical structures
(nerves and blood vessels) for
the operation. Then, we use a computer to
perform the implant simulation at the correct
position, and a plastic guide based on the
simulation is installed on the surgical site and
actual surgery is underway.
Since the implant fixture can be placed in the
correct position, the most important stability in
implant surgery is ensured and the implant is
placed at the correct position,
which is the basis of long-lasting
dental implant.
In addition, immediate temporary tooth
can be made in advance for guided surgery.
Since the implant surgery is completed
with the fixed temporary teeth immediately
after the surgery, There is no difficulty in
everyday life with the pronunciation, eating,
and the appearance.
