What is a Sinus Lift?

The "sinus lift" is a bone-grafting procedure

that's required when the quantity of bone

found in a patient's upper jaw is inadequate

to accommodate the length of

a dental implant.

   1)    Sinus / Enlarged sinus

The maxillary sinus is one of

the paranasal sinuses (a hollow space in

the bones around the nose) which are l

ocated below the cheeks, above the teeth

and on the sides of the nose. And

the volume of maxillary sinus can get

larger as you age.

2) Grafted bone

When tooth is lost, then there is no need

for the bone to hold the tooth, and therefore

the height of the alveolar bone in

the extraction site will atrophy or shrink.

This makes dental implant placement

more difficult due to early loss of

available bone.

3) Implant placement

In that case, place implants at the same

time the sinus lift is performed due to

oral surgeons’ experience,

best practices and surgical techniques

developed for a sinus lift procedure.

If there is inflammation in the maxillary sinus,

it can increase the likelihood of implant

failure. Therefore, in order to do dental

implant on the upper molar area,

it is necessary to make sure that you

have sinusitis beforehand and if necessary,

maxillary sinusitis should be treated

first in ENT. The best way to avoid

problem is that you will be treated at

a hospital with many clinical

experiences and lots of know-how.
