Precautions during orthodontic treatment

Care of Appliances

Orthodontic appliances can easily fall off

or break due to delicate structures.

In order to prevent breakage during

the treatment, you need to avoid hard

and sticky foods or biting too hard.

The duration of orthodontic treatment

could be prolonged if a bracket falls off

or breaks.

- Eat foods such as meat and carrots by

first cutting them into smaller pieces.

- Avoid hard foods such as peanuts, crab.

- Avoid tough foods such as squid.

- Let ice or candy melt in the mouth.

- Avoid sticky foods such as caramel, gum.

Rubber bands discoloration

The steady pressure used to hold wires

and rubber bands which are bonded to

brackets gradually move teeth into

their ideal positions. These rubber

bands can become discolored by

dark colored foods. The toothbrush is

hard to remove the discolored elastics

so that it needs to replace with a new one.

Eat deeply colored foods around dates you

visit the hospital, or avoid colored foods.
