-What are Laminate Veneers?
Laminate veneer is like putting on
makeup. The surface of tooth is thinly
deleted and tooth-colored ceramic is
placed over the tooth. The discolored
teeth and slightly uneven teeth can be
improved. Many celebrities like veneers
which are an effective way to restore
teeth that are chipped or stained.
The front surface of the tooth is
generally trimmed and reduced,
so it is called aesthetic prosthesis.
For example, yellow front teeth can
become white by removing the surface
of teeth and bonding to ceramic.
Dental ceramic is rarely discolored,
but it needs to be bonded again
if it comes off.
In the past, laminate veneers were known
that artificial teeth were cemented onto
existing teeth of either side of the space
with a fixed bridge. However, many teeth
are removed in that case. If teeth are
extracted, it is not laminate veneers.
The term “Laminate veneers” was mixed
with orthodontics treatment.
-Needs of laminate veneers
Whether people can get laminate veneers
depends on treatment purpose. In case of
the purpose for set of teeth or protruded
mouth, it can be improved with orthodontic
treatment because teeth need to move
backwards.
Laminate veneers are usually
recommended for discolored teeth or
black lines at gum lines.
However, it is only possible for
straight teeth. The basic principle of
laminate veneers is ‘eliminating
the minimum number of teeth’.
It is available if a tooth is slightly
crooked 0.5~1mm, however in case of
over 1mm, orthodontic treatment is
necessary. Although orthodontic
retreatment is possible, dental
preservation or prosthesis needs tooth
elimination so that it’s hard to restore
tooth to its original condition.
-Even if orthodontic treatment
should be first, adults who want laminate
veneers to improve their appearance
might hesitate to wear braces for
a long time.
